Through Our Lens Gallery Exhibition

1 week 4 days ago
Through Our Lens Gallery Exhibition

The Counseling and Wellness Center is proud to announce the opening of "Through Our Lens," a gallery exhibit featuring film photography and storytelling from Western students. Showcasing a diverse array of images, this exhibition offers a unique glimpse into the vibrant experiences and perspectives of Western students' reflections of well-being, inclusivity, and finding joy amidst difficulty.

Funded by the Sustainability, Equity, and Justice Fund, the “Through Our Lens” project spanned over two quarters, and is based on Photovoice, a community-based participatory research methodology. The project connected science and practice, inspiring community engagement and student participation in the development, planning, and implementation of a well-being intervention that gave students a space to reflect individually and communally about belonging and connection at WWU through the medium of photography.

The "Through Our Lens" gallery exhibit will be open to the public from May 7 to May 17 at the B Gallery, located on the campus of Western Washington University. Admission is free, offering an opportunity for the community to engage with the work of these talented student photographers. Please join us for light refreshments and community celebration at our opening reception Thursday, May 9, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM.

For disability accommodation, please email cwc@wwu.edu.

Western Scream Queens Club Meeting

1 week 4 days ago
Western Scream Queens Club Meeting

The Western Scream Queens in a club wherein we watch a horror movie and then discuss queer representation and symbolism while taking a deep dive into queer influence.

Come join us Thursdays at 6pm in Bond Hall 109

This club is intended to create a space where queers who love horror can gather and discuss their interests without judgment. The Western Scream Queens believe in the inherent value and queerness of horror in that it has the ability to tackle the issues other genres cannot and represent the Other like, well, none other. Queerness finds a safe place in that Other and many people like us have found a safe place within horror fandom. The Western Scream Queens meet every Thursday of the academic quarter and watch a queer horror film, which is a horror film with a queer creator and/or queer themes, followed by a discussion of the history and queerness of the film. This is an excellent opportunity to uplift queer horror creators and films that may have slipped through the cracks of cultural consciousness as well as to educate queer folks about our rich history within the genre.

*for accommodations, please contact Colter Lemons: lemonsc@wwu.edu

**Description of image: a black and great background with the words "watch horror movies and talk about queerness with Western Scream Queens" on the left of the image. The words "Thursdays six to nine pm" and "Bond Hall 109" are on the right side of the image. The lower right-hand section of the image has a gravestone with a pastel rainbow in the background. The earth in front of the gravestone has a zombie hand reaching up with its wrist bent down.

From Thursday, May 9, 2024 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM PDT at Bond Hall 109.
